Theme: Sustainability – In for the Long Haul
Societal leaders today face mounting pressures and an onslaught of challenges as needs on the ground continue to grow. The 2nd Societal Leadership Summit will focus on the people who take charge for the betterment of society. How ready are you for the long haul?
Day 1 | Nov 7
Keynote Address on societal leadership
Guest-of-Honour – Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam
Deputy Prime Minister and Co-ordinating Minister for Economic & Social Policies
Breakout Session 1 (2 concurrent sessions)
a. Rethinking the Business Model: Are we running ourselves into the ground with our current business/funding model?
The struggle to be financially sustainable is an issue many social impact organisations can identify with. How does your organisation ensure business viability while pursuing your mission to better society? Is the current funding model hindering or liberating your organisation’s growth?
b. Talent Management: Are we attracting and retaining the right talent?
Attracting the right talent and retaining best performers are critical to an organisation’s long-term success. But how can your social impact organisation hire and keep key talents, when the work isn’t easy and financial incentive isn’t one of the key levers available?
Breakout Session 2 (2 concurrent sessions)
a. Self-Care & Well-Being: What is the real cost of societal leadership?
Societal leaders inevitably make trade-offs for the causes they believe in. Are they heading for burnout? How does a leader’s well-being impact the organisation’s sustainability and affect others in the team?
b. Succession Planning: Is there a right time to pass on the baton?
Leadership succession is vital to an organisation’s continuity. As a generation of leaders holding key positions move on, how does that impact organisational sustainability? When should leaders start to look for their successors, how should they do this, and what traits should they look for?
The Road To Sustainability
In the VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous) world that we live, do societal leaders understand how organisational sustainability is being evaluated and what warning signs to look out for? Is being sustainable enough? What about expansion and growth?
Day 2 | Nov 8
The labs will enable participants to map out priorities while working on ways to mitigate risks and capitalise on opportunities to ensure sustainability for the long haul. The four optional facilitated sessions (run concurrently) are platforms to discuss challenges and issues raised from the breakout sessions on Day 1:
- Rethinking the Business Model
- Talent Management
- Self-care & Well-being
- Succession Planning
